Every property and Starlink project is different. This guide explains the practical factors considered during professional installation and helps you prepare informed questions before work begins.
What ‘Disconnected’ actually tells you
Disconnected means the app cannot currently communicate through the expected path, but it does not identify one universal cause. The issue may be local Wi-Fi, router power, the dish cable, equipment, or service.
The message describes lost communication, not a diagnosis. The phone may be on cellular data or another Wi-Fi network, the router may have lost power, the router may be unable to reach the dish, or the dish may be online but unavailable to the account. Start at the phone and move outward one link at a time.
Confirm the phone and router connection
Confirm the phone is connected to the correct Wi-Fi, check router power and lights, look for a broader outage notice, inspect accessible connectors, and determine whether the dish appears powered or responsive.
Verify the correct network name and disable cellular data temporarily. Note router lights, try another device, and check whether a wired connection works. If the phone alone cannot connect, forget and rejoin the Wi-Fi before disturbing exterior equipment. If no device can reach the router, investigate local power or router state.

Mann's Starlink Contracting provides owner-installed service throughout Kentucky and an 11-state region.
Separate a service outage from a physical link failure
Save the exact message and time, try a supported reboot, test close to the router, and check whether wired devices also fail. Persistent dish-to-router disconnection points toward cable or equipment rather than weak room coverage.
A regional outage usually appears in the app and affects otherwise intact equipment. A dish-to-router failure may persist after the outage clears and often produces cable or offline events. Obstructions more commonly cause repeated short interruptions than a continuous disconnected state.
Check cable and power without creating more problems
Avoid factory resets before recording settings and errors. Do not climb, open equipment, or handle exterior connectors in dangerous weather, and never assume that an online account page proves the physical system is connected.
Confirm plugs are fully seated and the outlet works. Power down before reseating accessible Starlink connectors and inspect for moisture, heat, bent contacts, or strain. Do not repeatedly cycle power, open sealed equipment, or access a dangerous roof solely because the app uses a broad disconnected label.
Information to send with a support request
If power and local Wi-Fi are confirmed but the dish remains disconnected, contact Starlink support with diagnostics. Use an installer when the suspected cause involves the exterior cable, mount, route, or safe physical access.
Provide the exact message, start time, router light behavior, whether all devices are affected, recent weather or power events, and photographs of visible damage. Starlink diagnostics can identify equipment and account problems; an installer can address the physical route or safely replace an exterior component.
