Starlink has revealed Router 4, its first router built around a Wi-Fi 7 chipset. The company’s official announcement positions it for streaming, gaming, and everyday use, with availability coming soon in select areas.

What has been reported so far

PCMag’s September coverage describes newly published Starlink support material for Router 4. The reported specifications include two Ethernet ports with Power over Ethernet support, an LED status light, a reset button, and water-resistant port covers.

PCMag also reports a Dual PoE upgrade-kit configuration without a wall power brick. Its report did not establish a retail price, and it noted that V5 was absent from the compatibility list it reviewed. That omission should not be treated as confirmation that every V5 installation is incompatible. Check Starlink’s current documentation for your specific hardware before purchasing.

What this means for your home Wi-Fi

Think of your connection as two parts: the satellite connection reaching the dish, and the home network carrying that connection to your devices. Improving the home network can help when Wi-Fi is the limiting factor. It cannot remove trees from the dish’s view or raise the speed limit of your service plan.

For an existing installation, start with the problem you want to solve. Is the connection good near the router but weak in a back bedroom? Does a detached workshop need coverage? Are important devices able to use Ethernet? Those questions are more useful than choosing equipment by generation number alone.

Planning a Router 4 installation or upgrade

Before changing equipment, identify the dish model, existing router, cable connections, and power supply. Confirm which Router 4 package Starlink offers for that setup and which components it includes. Keep the existing system available until the replacement has been connected and checked.
