Every property and Starlink project is different. This guide explains the practical factors considered during professional installation and helps you prepare informed questions before work begins.

Ownership transfer protects both parties

A proper transfer separates the equipment from the seller's account and lets the buyer activate it under a different account. Handing over the hardware, email address, or password is not a safe substitute. The seller should retain control of personal billing information, while the buyer should receive equipment that is eligible to activate independently.

The seller should prepare the account and equipment

Confirm the correct service line and terminal before making changes, download any records that may be needed, remove personal network labels from written notes, and review Starlink's current eligibility conditions. Service status, minimum ownership periods, balances, rentals, or other restrictions may affect whether a transfer option appears.

Document the kit being transferred

Record the terminal identifier, hardware generation, included router, cable, power supply, mounts, adapters, and physical condition. Photograph the equipment and accessories at handoff. This avoids confusion when one account contains several service lines or when the buyer later discovers that a required component was not included.

The buyer should activate through a new or existing account

Use Starlink's official activation flow and the buyer's own contact and payment information. Confirm the intended service address and available plan before paying the seller in full. A buyer should not rely on continuing to use the seller's account because future billing, security, support, and ownership disputes become much harder to resolve.

Installation compatibility still needs review

Transferred equipment may use an older mount interface, proprietary cable, separate Ethernet adapter, or discontinued accessory. Identify the generation before ordering hardware. Inspect outdoor cables and power components rather than assuming that an account transfer means the physical system is ready for permanent installation.

Use current official instructions

Starlink can change transfer requirements and account menus. Treat this article as a planning checklist, then follow the current instructions shown in the owner's account. If a transfer control is missing or the equipment identifier is rejected, stop the sale and resolve the account issue with Starlink Support.
