Every property and Starlink project is different. This guide explains the practical factors considered during professional installation and helps you prepare informed questions before work begins.

A call uses the connection in both directions

Incoming video relies on download, while your camera and voice rely on upload. Latency and packet loss affect conversation timing. That is why a connection that plays video smoothly can still freeze, blur, or drop audio during a live meeting.

Remove avoidable Wi-Fi problems

Work near a well-placed router, use Ethernet when possible, and compare the app's router-to-internet result with the device-to-router result. Thick walls, floors, appliances, and crowded wireless channels can weaken a meeting even when Starlink service itself is healthy.

Treat repeated obstructions seriously

Short terminal interruptions can disconnect a meeting or cause the application to recover at lower quality. Review outage history and the obstruction map. A permanent location should be chosen for the most obstructed season, not only a clear winter view.

Reduce competition before an important meeting

Pause large uploads, cloud backups, game downloads, and unnecessary high-resolution streams. Security cameras can continuously consume upload. Close unused applications and connect power to the meeting device so battery-saving behavior does not limit performance.

Use application controls intelligently

If conditions are marginal, disable high-definition video, use a neutral background instead of intensive effects, or turn off your camera temporarily while keeping audio. Call quality settings cannot repair the installation, but they can reduce demand during a temporary limitation.

Prepare a backup for critical calls

Keep dial-in information, a charged phone, or alternate connection available for interviews, medical appointments, hearings, and essential business meetings. Test before the event and document recurring failures with times and app status for meaningful troubleshooting.
