Every property and Starlink project is different. This guide explains the practical factors considered during professional installation and helps you prepare informed questions before work begins.

Performance can change without equipment failure

New leaf growth, a maturing tree, neighboring construction, an addition, or a relocated outbuilding can enter the terminal's required sky view. Repeated brief outages may appear even though the router, cable, and dish remain healthy.

Confirm the obstruction pattern

Review the app's obstruction map and outage history over several days and compare events with weather and seasonal conditions. Photograph the site from safe locations. Avoid factory resets or buying network equipment when the problem is a physical object blocking the sky.

Evaluate several relocation options

Compare roof planes, walls, fascia, poles, and appropriate non-penetrating locations for sky clearance, structural support, cable distance, safe access, appearance, wind exposure, and future growth. Raising the dish a small amount may not solve a broad canopy.

Inspect what can be reused

A compatible mount may remain useful, but fasteners, seal components, cable, adapters, and weather exposure need inspection. A cable that reaches the old location may be too short for the new one and should not be extended with an improvised outdoor splice.

Repair the abandoned location

Removal can leave roof or wall penetrations that must be repaired for the actual surface. Coordinate roofing or siding work when necessary. Do not simply remove hardware and cover holes with an arbitrary sealant.

Verify the new installation

After relocation, confirm alignment, obstruction performance, cable support, router placement, Wi-Fi, and weather sealing. Keep before-and-after photographs and update the property record so future roof or tree work accounts for the new route.
